Rebates

The BC government offers charger rebates for condo’s, apartments, and workplaces:

I. Condo’s & Apartments
Condo’s and apartments include town homes as long as the town home has a shared parking area.

There are three rebates for condo’s and apartments:

1) EV Ready Plan
The BC government will give up to $ 3,000 towards an EV Ready Plan -- a plan for your building to make at least one parking space per residential unit EV Ready.

CleanMotion’s plan includes:

  • An assessment of your building’s electrical capacity
  • Current Canadian Electrical Code calculations
  • Recommendations for an EV charging system based on capacity results
  • Cost to make your building EV Ready

The building must have been constructed by August 31, 2021.

2) EV Ready Infrastructure
The above EV Ready Plan is a precondition for the EV Ready Infrastructure.
The BC government will give up to $ 120,000 towards your building’s EV Ready Infrastructure. This is the infrastructure that needs installing in your building to implement your EV Ready Plan.

3) EV Charger Rebate
This is for the cost of buying and installing level 2 network chargers at your building.
If your building has participated in the EV Ready Plan and EV Ready Infrastructure, then your building can receive up to 50% of costs to a maximum of $ 1,400 per charger and $ 14,000 per condo. complex.

If your building has not participated in the EV Ready Plan and EV Ready Infrastructure, then your building can receive up to 50% of costs to a maximum of $ 2,000 per charger and $14,000 per condo. complex.

II. Workplaces
Organizations can receive rebates up to $ 2,000 per charger to purchase and install level 2 network chargers to a maximum of $ 14,000 per site. Organizations can apply for up to four sites for a maximum of $ 56,000 per organization.
To qualify, the workplace must:

  • be in BC
  • have a minimum of 5 employees
  • be constructed by August 31, 2021
  • have dedicated parking for employees during working hours.

FAQ 1: What to consider when choosing an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger?

  • Is support Canada-based & available 24-7?
  • Does the manufacturer keep a percentage of the charging revenues from your charger before giving you the balance?
  • Will the charger need a signal booster to connect with the network services?
  • Is there a vendor lock-in stopping you from switching software providers for the charger? Or does the charger use Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) so you can switch providers?
  • Does the charger have the options of with and without retractable charging cables?

FAQ 2: Does the manufacturer take a percentage of the revenues your charger earns before giving the balance?

Some manufacturers hold back a percentage of revenues.  So check first.

FAQ 3: Can you change software providers for your charger or are you locked-in?

Check whether the charger uses Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP). OCPP means you can switch software providers for your charger. Some companies are NOT OCPP, so your charger is locked-in.

FAQ 4: Does the charger have the options of with and without retractable charging cables?

Retractable cables increase costs, so it’s nice to have the option to opt out.

FAQ 5: Will your charger need a signal booster to connect with the services after it's installed?

Network chargers need a signal so you might need a signal booster, which can cost a few thousand dollars.  Phone connectivity doesn’t mean charger connectivity!  The good news is not all chargers need signal boosters, so check with the company first!

FAQ 6: What’s the difference between Level 1, 2 and 3 chargers?

Basically, there are three charger-levels.  The higher the level, the faster the charge. And higher the cost!  All EVs charge on Levels 1 & 2 but not necessarily on Level 3:

Level

Power kW

Charging Time for 160 km

Approx. Electricity Cost

FAQ 7: How long does it take to charge an EV from near empty to near full?

Depends on your car & battery.  Roughly:
Level 1: 12 to 20 hrs.
Level 2: 4 to 5 hrs.
Level 3: 20 to 30 mins.

FAQ 8: How much does it cost to charge an EV from near empty to near full?

Depends on your car & battery.  Roughly:
Level 1: $ 2.50
Level 2: $ 3.00
Level 3: $ 5.00

FAQ 9: What’s the difference between a network and non-network charger?

Network chargers are like cell phones – they connect to a network. They “speak” to one another and can be remotely accessed by you.
They provide services, such as: the opportunity to recoup your electrical costs by debiting drivers; the ability to reserve a charging session; and the option to charge different driver groups at different rates.

FAQ 10: What are important network services?

  • Reliable, Canadian support -- 24/7.
  • Debit drivers for charging.
  • Control who charges thru. authentication.
  • Reserve charging sessions remotely.
  • Set different rates for different driver groups.
  • Increase charging rates remotely.
  • Real-time monitoring of charging sessions.
  • Access reports on charging metrics.

FAQ 11: Does one pay for network services?

  • All brands charge for network services but some are more affordable than others.
  • Some brands retain a percentage of charging revenue before paying the station owner the balance. Other brands do not.

FAQ 12: Do CleanMotion's chargers charge ALL EVs?

Yes.  CleanMotion’s chargers are universal.  They charge all EVs, including Tesla.

FAQ 13: How do I charge my EV?

Step 1: Download the app.
Step 2: Locate nearest charger on the map.
Step 3: Reserve charging session (if brand has this feature).
Step 4: Authenticate using your phone or RFID card.
Step 5: Plug in and charge!
